Loic Deschaux, 14 ans, est revenu samedi soir du Mexique avec le titre de champion du monde de Wakeboard câble. “EXO 73 sur le lac du Gabelin à Aiton (Savoie) se trouve entre Albertville (20km) et Chambéry (30km), son emplacement est idéal avec une vue magnifique sur les massifs environnants. What do you think you did to win the FISE ?

Since the beginning of the season, I had been training regularly for FISE and I participated in courses organized by my club and I was also able to start my good season with a course in Thailand.

What did you think of your category this year ?

The level of the category was very high and it was necessary to ride at the maximum. I loved riding the ghetto modules.

Are you coming back next year and in which category ?

I will certainly come back next year when it will be even more difficult since I have learned that I will be in the pro category.

Victor Salmon Interview

What did you think you done to win theFISE ?

I thought FISE was amazing again this year! Its one of my favorite events cause the whole city comes to watch the event and gets everyone hyped on riding during the day and every night theres a crazy party!

What did you think of this edition ?

This year the set up was pretty similar to last year which was a bit of a bummer but at the same time made it a lot easier cause we didnt have to get used to a whole new set up.

Do you want to come back next year?

Im definitely coming back next year! FISE is by far one of my favorite events to come to! And Montpellier is such a dope city !

Qu’est ce que tu pense avoir fait pour gagner le FISE ?

Depuis le début de la saison, je m’entraînais régulièrement pour le FISE et J’ai participé à des stages organisé par mon club et j’ai aussi pu commencer ma saison de bonheur avec un stage en Thaïlande.

Qu’est ce que tu as pensé de cette année ?

Le niveau de la catégorie était très élevé et il a fallu rider au maximum. J’ai adoré rider les modules “ghetto”.

Est ce que tu vas revenir l’année prochaine et dans quelle catégorie?

Je reviendrai certainement l’année prochaine où se sera encore plus difficile puisque j’ai appris que je serai dans la catégorie pro.

Wakeboarder Shaun Murray has accomplished more in his 30-year career than most do in a lifetime, from winning contests and incredible video sections, to getting his own video game and even competing on American Ninja Warrior. Boating caught up with Murray about his career. Interview !

What kind of boat and board did you learn to wakeboard on?
I’m not sure of the year, but it was a TriHull Galaxy. If you search a little ways back in my instagram feed you can see me sitting in it. My first board was the Skurfer Rage 1988.

You’ve had 23 pro model boards with Hyperlite in your career. Do you have one that really stands out?
It’s been 26 years with Hyperlite and 23 pro models currently. 2020 will be 24. The Bug board, from 1998, was the first big change when I wanted my board to be a lot wider, which allowed a much more free-flowing rhythm and style. Up to that point our boards were a little too aggressive and ski-like. Don’t get me wrong, I love skiing to this day, but when I’m standing sideways I’m going for a different feeling.

What’s changed the most about wakeboarding during your career?
Boat and wake sizes. They’re huge! And honestly not too cheap. But, it’s one of the best investments to be able to spend time with your kids and friends in an environment that really doesn’t exist outside of boating. Your kids want to be there, as well as their friends. Everyone is encouraging others while they’re riding, pushing each other, having a great time.

You’ve competed semi-regularly on American Ninja Warrior the last five years. What’s the experience been like? How does it compare to a professional wakeboarding contest?

I built the my backyard gym without even thinking about ANW because I wanted to be light on my feet and to be able to swing around like a monkey and get what I call “Monkey Strong.” Monkey Strong is something you’ll see on my Hyperlite board graphics from the past five years. I started competing after a few months of working out on my backyard gym when I saw you could apply to be on the show. ANW is a pretty crazy process. You have to apply, and if you get accepted, you get one shot to run the course, which is what you see on TV. Don’t get to touch the course before you go, let alone practice. You fall and that’s it for the year. Way more stressful than a wakeboard contest, but so many similarities. Training, eating right, training more, counting down the days. But it’s super fun and I love the challenge.

Where’s the coolest place wakeboarding has taken you?
When I wakeboarded behind a Super Air Nautique G23 on the Sea of Galilee in Israel.

What’s it like being a character in your own video game?
That’s super crazy, especially since I’ve played video games since I was a kid. Seeing myself riding in the game and on the box cover of the game is something that is kinda weird but I’m super thankful for.

When did you start wakeboarding ?

9 months ago.

Who’s your first hero?

Steve Irwin

What is your favourite movie ?

Hot Rod

What is your breakfast of champion ?

A banana, coconut/almond milk and RAW protein powder smoothie is my go to breakfast beafore a day of riding.

Tacos or Pizza ?

If we’re talking soft tacos then i choose tacos, but if we’re talking hard tacos then i choose pizza !

Cable or Boat ?

Cable riding but i do really love boat riding too, I just don’t get the opportunity to go boat riding very often.

Your admirable quality ?

Very strong minded (sometimes a little too much hehe)

Your bigget regret ?

Not starting wakeboarding earlier. Wakeboarding has had such a HUGE positive impact on my life !

Your musical genius ?

Ziggy Alberts ! His voice smoothes my soul.

Your most satisfying purchase ?

Hmm that’s a hard one because i hold a lot of appreciation and satisfaction for everything that i purchase, as i don’t earn a lot of money and i have to save up to purchase anything new. But if i had to choose i’d have to say my Ronix RXT binding because they’re so light and comfortable to ride in.

Your health concerns ?

Lyme Disease and Endometriosis.

Your advice to people dealing with chronic illness ?

DON’T FORGET TO KEEP LIVING !
When dealing with a chronic ilness it’s easy to get trapped in this negative frame of mind where you don’t know how to not be sick anymore and you become too scared to get out and live your life because you might be bed ridden for days afterwards if you push yourself too hard. I cannot express enough how much a strong and positive mindset changes everything.

As soon as you switch your mindset and believe that you can achieve the things that you want to, you will ! Yes it’s going to be scary and yes you might struggle at first, but you will also thrive and become stronger mentally and physically once you push through that sickness boundary that’s been holding you back !

Since i started wakeboarding it has had such a huge positive impact on my health, mentally and physically. I am the strongest i’ve ever been ! I will admit that sometimes i go a little too hard and fatigue myself… but it’s all apart of learning your boundaries and knowing when to push yourself and when to rest your body (which i’m still learning).
